I'm an American expat who has lived in Asia for more than 23 years. I recently returned to Kathmandu after teaching in a Chinese kindergarten for the past 4 years in Chengdu. I have taught English to students of all ages and have an educational background in community health and development in third world countries. I have posted stories of my experiences online at my personal blog here (http://www.asianomad.biketravellers.com) and I'm preparing for a pilgrimage among the Himalaya from August 2013 to May 2014 (http://www.gypsyspiritride.info). I am interested in settling down in Kathmandu where I have previously lived from 1991 to 1998. Kathmandu Valley has changed dramatically and the population has increased many times over. I would like to organize a home schooling group with parents who might be interested in teaching their children with the help of an experienced teacher. I am interested in curriculums provided online (for example: www.robinsoncurriculum.com and www.ronpaulcurriculum.com) and have taught in various boarding schools in Kathmandu. I have also volunteered at Lincoln School during a trek to the Annapurna region and taught in after-school programs in Charlottesville, Virginia where I grew up. I also have experience from serving in the U.S. Navy from 1972 to 1978 and was located in the Philippines, South Korea, and the U.K. I am apolitical and consider myself to be somewhat of an anarchist. I am also a member of Couch Surfing (www.couchsurfing.org/people/dhaneblue) and would like to meet others interested in education and development issues involving children. I have previously founded an orphanage for Burmese children in Mae Sot, Thailand while working there as a teacher and would like to become involved in helping local children in Kathmandu. If you have similar interests, would like to have your children exposed to alternative education, and would like to have them taught by a mature, professional teacher (I am 60) please contact me.
